Coming to Cork College of Commerce to re-sit my leaving certificate has been the best decision I have made with my life since leaving school. At the tender age of 17, having sat a leaving cert I didn’t care about, I entered the working world. All I wanted was freedom. After spending years working, I started to realise that the only way I could improve my life, was by going back to the beginning, starting from scratch, and repeating my leaving cert. In today’s world, 3rd level education is so important, but you also need a solid backbone from which to build your future. With the help of the colleges amazing teachers and staff, I am now flying through the course, absolutely confident with my work and studies, and eager to sit the exams. I have applied to UCC, and with a bit of luck and a lot of work, I’m hoping to realise my dream, and be accepted. None of this would have been possible were it not for two things: The teachers and staff, and just as importantly, my own decision to re-sit. I implore any of you, if you have even the slightest inkling to re-sit your leaving cert, do it. The power to change your life is in your hands, all it takes is one good decision, and Cork College of Commerce to help you see it through.

Lewis Ferris, Adult Leaving Certificate

I decided to continue my education after being out of school for more than ten years. It wasn’t easy at first but I got to meet people who were very determined and positive towards education . That encouraged me not to give up.

The teachers are so amazing and supportive. They give out their best to make sure that every student can be on track with their studies. I’m so grateful to the staff of cork college of commerce for their support and encouragement.

Samuel Opoko, Adult Leaving Certificate

Returning to do the Leaving Certificate having left school many years before was a big challenge. It was like the first day I began school as a child. I wanted to run away to the safety of our home, but I stayed and it only took a day to settle in as the teachers and support staff made me so welcome. They were so helpful to me throughout the year. I also made many wonderful friends.

Feargal Ó Murchú, Adult Leaving Certificate and Estate Agency Administration, Cork College of Commerce

I was apprehensive about returning to education as I left school in 1st year with no exams completed, but once I started the Adult Leaving Cert Course in the College of Commerce, all that changed.

It was the best decision I had made in a long time and the course coordinator and teachers could not have been more helpful.  I believe more opportunities will open up for me now I have completed the course. I would recommend the College of Commerce to anyone considering a return to education.

John A. Harris, Adult Leaving Certificate

After doing badly in my Leaving Certificate the first time I decided to go back do it a second time. I can honestly say it was the best decision I ever made as I am now hoping to go on and obtain a qualification in Accounting Technician here in the College of Commerce. Thanks to the teachers and the course director I am well on my way to achieving this goal. I would recommend to anyone considering going back to education to do so as for me it is the start of a bright career prospect and it is down to the support I have been given during the year here in the College of Commerce.

Michelle Spillane, Adult Leaving Certificate and Accounting Technicians, Cork College of Commerce

Having left school at the beginning of sixth year to start learning a trade I was always annoyed at myself for not doing my Leaving Cert, so in 2016 I decided to return to education. It was nerve wracking at first but all my worries soon disappeared. The teachers in the college are amazing at their jobs. To get a large group of adults who for some have been out of school for up to twenty years ready to sit an exam in eight months when it takes secondary students two even three years is some going, I would highly recommend the College of commerce to anyone thinking of going back to school to do the Leaving Cert.

Tony O'Donovan, Adult Leaving Certificate and Hospitality Studies, Cork College of Commerce
